What is the mass of acetylsalicylic acid will be a one-year organic chemistry students typically get from aspirin 325mg tabs?
Someone bumped into methanol and acetylsalicylic acid solutions. I wanted to show my teacher that I can do the calculations and answer the questions the lab, although I would never to take or give the melting point product samples. So I will use a number of theoretical recovery (I do not want to fail completely in the laboratory). He knows I'm losing all my products. This is not about cheating, this about saving a few starting points. I'm with 325mg aspirin tablet, mixed with methanol, centrifuged to remove the binder, ran through the chromatography column (using aluminum oxide), and in the process of evaporating the methanol on the hood of smoke, when kablam! My lab partner splashed all over the bottle into the hot tub. If I can continue, I'll be filtered crystal after vacuum evaporation and ice water bath. What will the recovery of amounts that would be typical? Thank you!
Do you really consider asprin 325mg tablets? Because tables should weigh more than 325mg with binders and all that garbage, if you do not weigh it and just trusted the label then you will probably get half of 325mg, may be less slightly. If you did it weigh and 325mg, you might get a quarter. At least thats how I seem to remember from my o-chem class (usually get about 40-60% "pure products")
