There is a continuous probability problem involving a dropped stick and two parallel lines?
Does anyone know this problem?
Something about the probability of the stick landing in such a way that it crosses over one of the parallel lines. Their distance from one another is equal to the length (or twice the length) of the dropped stick.
And the answer somehow involves pi.
Im looking for a thorough proof and explanation for this problem and its answer.
Yes. Do a Web search on "Buffon's Needle". This is the goofiest way to estimate pi that I know of.
