While some individuals who put money into gold as a safe haven, this is not enough demand to offset a decline in industrial demand. As the world dives into a deep recession if not depression, the industry demand dries up. Soooo ... buy gold now if you believe the world will heal and if you have cash ... Industrial demand will pick back up, but only if the recession ends.
